The parent parakeet (or Budgie) is flying back to their nest built in the sun, the highest, life-giving source, with the geometric shards peeling off from the parent to form a protective barrier from predators represents how one gives a part of one's self to continue life on this earth and to build a home that keeps their children safe. A hidden, menacing dark bird is obscured behind her to allude to the danger of those who seek to harm or steal from others who work so hard for what they have. One must not give too much that their own armor is not strong enough to protect themselves and thus, the home they have built.
This was my section of a collaboration with Chris Silkwood and Emily Dingman as part of a charity auction with Art On The Ave. a couple years ago that helps fund low income housing. Original was auctioned off and sold.
A must have for any art collector with a penchant for geometry and nature!
